Jayaraman named 2020 Oldham Faculty Award recipient

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences faculty member Vasanthi Jayaraman, PhD, has been named the 2020 recipient of the D. Dudley and Judy White Oldham Faculty Award.

Jayaraman is a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. At the Graduate School, she is affiliated with the Programs in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and Neuroscience. Her research focuses on communication and signaling pathway in nerve cells and disorders underlying these.

Jayaraman joined the Graduate School faculty in 2002 and served as GSBS faculty president from 2014-2015. In 2017, she received the UT Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award, which recognizes faculty members at the nine academic and six health institutions in The University of Texas System who have demonstrated extraordinary classroom performance and innovation in instruction.

“This award acknowledges the selfless service and mentoring by the faculty that is the foundation of our graduate school,” said Jayaraman.

The Oldham award was established in 2018 by D. Dudley and Judy White Oldham to recognize an exceptional faculty member who consistently demonstrates excellence in service and leadership. The recipient receives a $4,000 cash award and a commemorative plaque.
