Six GSBS students participated in The John P. McGovern Award for Presentation Skills Contest on May 15. The event is part of an oral presentation competition based on the student’s current research project. To compete, applicants submit an abstract describing their research, along with a cover sheet, letters of recommendation and current curriculum vita to a judging committee which selects the top six abstracts, based on their scientific merit for competition. Then, each applicant presents a 10-minute oration and responds to five minutes of questioning before a panel of three GSBS faculty members at a public symposium.

The top three finalists are awarded scholarship funds: 1st-$1,000, 2nd-$750, 3rd-$500 and a prize for the People’s Choice Award. This year’s winners pictured above were: 1st: Lindsey Minter (center); 2nd: Rita Sirrieh (left); 3rd and People’s Choice: Brittany Parker (right).
