GSBS marks 50th anniversary with kick-off celebration

The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston kicked off the celebration of its 50th anniversary with a party on October 3 at The Forum in Mitchell Basic Science Research Building.

More than 150 people attended the event which included presentations by UTHealth President Giuseppe Colasurdo, M.D.; MD Anderson President Ron DePinho, M.D.; and Texas Medical Center President and CEO Robert (Bobby) Robbins, M.D.; an oversized cake in the shape of Texas; and the unveiling of PlanetGSBS, an original artwork developed from the panoramic photo taken by Houston artist Syd Moen on August 16 at the McGovern Commons water wall.

The festivities also included a call for time capsule submissions as attendees were asked to bring tangible, three-dimensional GSBS keepsakes to the event for considered for placement in the capsule.

The Graduate School was established on June 11, 1963, and activated by the Board of Regents of the University of Texas on September 28, 1963.
