John Mendelsohn, M.D., president emeritus of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, a GSBS faculty member, and scientist whose research helped pioneer a new type of cancer therapy, died Jan. 7 at his home in Houston. He was 82.
Hoping to increase the survival rate for oral cancer, doctors at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) are participating in a multicenter, phase one/two clinical trial on a drug-releasing patch designed to shrink tumors prior to surgery.
The Graduate School would like to recognize first-year Ph.D. student Suman Shrestha for receiving the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS) Career Development Award from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This award creates an opportunity for early career investigators and trainees with an interest and aptitude in childhood cancer survivorship research to develop and complete an initial research study. He will be working with the Medical Physics Program and Rebecca Howell, Ph.D., on this research.
