GS11 1093 Clinical Genetics in Epidemiology

The intent of this course is for students to understand the role clinical genetics plays in the practice of epidemiology, and the relationship between epidemiology and medical genetics. Emphasis will be on the practice of medical genetics as it may be encountered by professionals in public health. Teaching will be by didactic classroom instruction in which subject material covers basic biology of clinical genetics, genetic diseases and birth defects as seen in a medical genetic clinic; the provision of genetic services in Texas; and public policy issues relating to the practice of medical genetics.
