The research in my laboratory is focused on the development of advanced hybrid systems for cartilage, spinal cord and brain tissue engineering. This is achieved through studying the effect of cell-material interactions on cellular differentiation and tissue formation utilizing combinatorial methods, different cell sources for tissue engineering applications and scaffold/polymer development. Most projects are interdisciplinary, involving techniques from cell, molecular, and stem cell biology, chemistry, and material science.
Depending on student interest, a tutorial in my laboratory could expose students to polymeric and peptide synthesis, scaffold fabrication techniques, material characterization, stem cell culture and differentiation, biochemical quantification assays, immunohistochemistry/ histology and PCR.
