Application Requirements and Process
Students applying to the MD/PhD Program must meet admission requirements for the McGovern Medical School and have research experience.
To apply only to the joint MD/PhD Program:
Applicants submit the (1) AMCAS application, (2) short secondary application, and (3) three letters of recommendation (two general letters and an additional research-specific letter of recommendation). All letters of recommendation are submitted through AMCAS.
To apply to both the MD-only and MD/PhD Program:
Applicants submit the (1) AMCAS application, (2) TMDSAS application, and (3) three letters of recommendation (two general letters and an additional research-specific letter of recommendation). All general letters of recommendation should be submitted through both AMCAS and TMDSAS, but the research-specific letter only has to be submitted through AMCAS.
Applications will not be reviewed until all components are received/processed.
All applications and letters of reference must be submitted by November 1st.
Interviews will be held on Oct 5-6, Nov 9-10, Dec 7-8, 2017, and Jan 14-12, 2018. You will be contacted if selected to interview.
Applicants for the MD/PhD Program interview with both the MD program (coordinated by the Medical School Admissions Office) and the MD/PhD Program (coordinated by the MD/PhD Program). The MD/PhD Program interviews are scheduled in October, November, December, and January, and efforts are made to coordinate the visits with the interviews scheduled for the Medical School.
The UT-Houston MD/PhD Program accepts 5 students each year, and initial acceptance letters are typically mailed by March. Additional offer letters are made as space is available.
