A message from the GSBS in regards to social media and racial insensitivity

June 24, 2020
Office of the GSBS Deans

At the Graduate School, we support our GSBS community members as we cultivate a community of trust and understanding for all our students, faculty, and staff. We particularly want our Black students and all communities of color and other identities to know that we stand with you always. We stand against acts of racial insensitivity and prejudice and denounce these actions taken by or against any member of our community.

On Tuesday, a post began circulating on social media platforms containing allegations that a GSBS alumnus made racially insensitive remarks to women of color and mocked them during their studies at the GSBS. Due to the diligence of our GSBS community, this post was brought to our attention, and we began investigating this allegation immediately. We take these allegations very seriously and have enlisted the guidance of our institutional leadership and the appropriate university offices on next steps.

We support our GSBS community and embrace the many interconnections of our identities. We ask that you help us and each other strive to consistently excel in making our school a welcoming place for all.

Current students and faculty will receive an email to the GSBS Climate Survey later on today. This survey will help us learn more about our environment so that we can take the appropriate actions against racism and other forms of prejudice.

If you wish to address concerns about racial prejudice, please contact the GSBS Deans' Office at

Students may also contact institutional compliance hotlines to confidentially and anonymously report concerns:
