Fall 2024 incoming PhD student Julia Langman, who was inspired to go into science by her grandfather, hopes to join the Neuroscience program at the Graduate School. Watch Julia's video.
How were you inspired by your grandfather to go into science?
Growing up, as a young female I was not always given the same opportunities as my male classmates in the STEM classes. My grandfather always made sure I still had access to STEM activities and that I knew I was smart enough to pursue the sciences. In 2020, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, which drove me to pursue a neuroscience degree.
What’s your educational background?
I just received my bachelor’s degree in behavioral neuroscience from Nova Southeastern University.
How did you choose the Graduate School?
I chose the Graduate School because of the welcoming and supportive environment I felt during my interview weekend, as well as the opportunities that the Graduate School has to offer, especially its location in the Texas Medical Center.
Now that you’re here, what are you looking forward to most?
I am looking forward to exploring Houston and checking out all the amazing restaurants!
