Community Outreach

ABOUT US

The Community Outreach group is a student-run organization parented by MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences that aims to help serve the community by increasing science understanding and awareness to create a better future.

We organize and coordinate a wide range of outreach activities within the community such as science fairs, career fairs, science lectures/demonstrations, MD Anderson and UT Health Houston lab tours, and more! Contact us if you would like to organize an event!

GOALS

  • Encourage and improve student interest and performance in science
  • Support teachers and educational programs in science
  • Provide GSBS students with the opportunity to learn valuable teaching skills
  • Provide a useful service to the community

Science Night is a FREE, annual event that is offered to elementary-aged children accompanied by their parents or guardians that will showcase multiple booths with different scientific activities. Our enthusiastic teams of graduate students, faculty, and GSBS staff will teach concepts spanning a variety of STEM topics like genetics, microbiology, physics and more, in easy-to-perform experiments and art projects. Our goal is to make STEM exciting while providing an educational experience.

*Note: entry for IMMUNOCOMPROMISED children and their families will be from 1:00-2:00 pm.
