While I do not have a research program, I have experience designing and conducting research
studies, and can provide guidance to genetic counseling students as they develop and conduct
their own master’s thesis projects. I would be honored to serve as a committee member and,
with time, as a chair. The research I completed during my own time as a genetic counseling
masters student focused on use of postmortem genetic testing by medical examiners
investigating cases of sudden cardiac death in the young. This study demonstrated that medical
examiners are using this testing to help elucidate genetic etiologies to these deaths, but that
there are many barriers to full utilization, including costs, lack of institutional support and lack
of time. I would love to work with students to build off this study, but also am very interested in
exploring topics related to barriers to medical care and genetic counseling more broadly.
Beyond these topics, other areas of interest include postmortem genetic testing usage for other
causes of death, genomic health literature and perinatal healthcare workflows.
