Making an impact behind the scenes: Erica Leday receives 2026 Melva S. Ramsay Award
May 05, 2026
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is proud to announce Erica Leday, senior administrative coordinator, as the recipient of the 2026 Melva S. Ramsay Award, a peer-nominated honor recognizing exceptional dedication, resourcefulness, and collegiality among staff.
For Leday, the recognition reflects the intention she brings to her work every day.
“Receiving this award is incredibly meaningful to me because it reflects the kind of impact I strive to have every day. I care deeply about supporting the people around me — whether that’s students, faculty, or staff — and helping things run smoothly behind the scenes. To be recognized for this award is both humbling and motivating, and it encourages me to continue showing up with the same level of dedication and care.”
A silent hero behind the scenes
Colleagues describe Leday as an indispensable member of the team whose contributions often happen behind the scenes but have a lasting impact. One nominator referred to her as a “silent hero,” noting her diligence in managing travel, procurement, and training in systems like Coupa — work that helps streamline processes for others across the organization.
“She has the initiative to do her job and accomplish it in no time. She's very helpful and supportive of our needs and easy to work with.”
Others highlighted her responsiveness and willingness to go above and beyond, even on short notice.
“She truly cares about helping the GSBS students, staff and faculty. If I have a question, she answers my questions promptly. If I need help even if of a personal nature such as notarizing documents, she does not even hesitate to help.”
Embodying the Ramsay award spirit
Established in 2005, the award commemorates the legacy of Melva S. Ramsay, who served the school for 33 years and was known for her unwavering support and commitment to others. Each year, the award is presented to a staff member who embodies those same values. Honorees receive a commemorative plaque and $500.
Congratulation to Leday, whose consistent dedication and quiet leadership exemplify the spirit of the Melva S. Ramsay Award — your commitment to service and support help make a meaningful difference across the Graduate School community!
