Weinberg, Frost named associate deans

The MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is proud to announce the promotion of Karen Weinberg, MS, and Jeffrey Frost, PhD, effective Sept. 1.
Weinberg has been named associate dean for management and will be responsible for the financial and administrative affairs of the Graduate School within both UTHealth Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center. In this role, she will oversee operations in the departments of communications, procurement, finance, information technology, personnel, facilities, and program coordination. Weinberg has served as associate dean for management ad interim since 2022.
Weinberg has been a dedicated member of the Graduate School community for almost 20 years. She was the recipient of the Melva S. Ramsay Award in recognition of exemplary service to students, faculty, and staff in 2011. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science in higher education with an administration emphasis from Texas A&M University – Commerce.
“I genuinely enjoy my job and am proud to continue to work with the wonderful GSBS staff to support the excellent work of our students and faculty,” Weinberg said.
Frost has assumed the role of associate dean for academic and faculty affairs and oversees the Office of Academic Affairs. Frost joined the Graduate School faculty in 2000 and is associated with the programs in Molecular and Translational Biology, and Genetics and Epigenetics. He joined the Graduate School’s administration in 2022 as assistant dean of graduate education and co-director of the Predoctoral and Post-doctoral Training in Clinical and Translational Sciences at UTHealth Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center (CCTS-TL1) program. He has served as associate dean of academic and faculty affairs ad interim since 2023.
Frost has served the Graduate School in several roles, from faculty to administration, and is dedicated to the success of the students and the school. He will continue to direct research in his lab, which focuses on cell signaling in breast and neuroendocrine tumors. In 2020 he was awarded the University of Texas System Board of Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award. He received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and cell biology and earned his PhD from the University of California at San Diego.
“I’m honored and excited about being promoted to this position. I look forward to working with everyone at the GSBS to provide the finest learning experience we can for our students, and to best serve the needs of our faculty,” Frost said.
