During my postdoctoral trainings, I engaged in extensive experimental research in clinical and molecular genetics. I contributed to various projects, authored research manuscripts, and presented my original work at multiple forums. My efforts in research led to publications in international peer-reviewed journals, and I also served as an independent reviewer for some of these journals. My time at leading laboratories, such as the National Institutes of Health and MD Anderson Cancer Center, provided me with a deep understanding of human molecular genetics and the scientific method.
However, since transitioning to a full-time educational role, my responsibilities have significantly shifted. Currently, I serve as a primary faculty member and associate program director for the Molecular Genetic Technology (MGT) program, where 80% of my time is dedicated to educational activities, and 20% to administrative and operational duties. My focus is now on clinical and allied health education, where I utilize my academic background to enhance the learning experience for my students. My research experience has provided me with a strong foundation, but my current role demands a different set of skills, including curriculum development related to diagnostics, program coordination, and student mentoring. Despite stepping away from active research, I believe that my extensive background in science continues to inform and enrich my contributions to education, helping students transition into successful allied health professionals.
