My current academic research interests are center on multigene panel testing for hereditary cancer syndromes, racial and ethnic health disparities in cancer genetics counseling services, and cancer risk communication among families. More specifically, I have a specific interest in characterizing phenotypes of families with incidentally identified hereditary cancer syndromes, particularly in genes with prophylactic surgery implications and the implications on counseling for multi-gene panels to patients. I am also highly interested in characterizing cultural factors that influences the uptake of genetic counseling and germline testing among patients in underserved patient populations. Additionally, I participate in large grants and smaller scale studies that explore communication patterns of hereditary cancer conditions, particularly hereditary breast cancer syndromes, between patients and their family members.
