The primary focus of my research is to understand the genetics and epidemiology of common chronic disease, with particular emphasis on diabetes and its complications, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. Such research necessarily is multidisciplinary involving field collection of data on individuals and pedigrees, large-scale and targeted genotyping, and statistical and specialized methods of genetic analysis. Investigations range from field studies to systematic searches of the human genome for relevant genes.

Tutorial experiences are generally focused on the manipulation and analysis of chronic disease genetic data including construction and use of haplotype tags and the methods by which genes are localized and identified. These experiences are designed around research questions that should usually lead to a publication.
