I am a clinical genetic counselor providing hereditary cancer genetic counseling to patients in the Greater Houston area. In this role, I serve individuals from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. My research interests arise from my clinical experiences and observations, and include identifying health disparities and barriers to genetic services, advocacy and outreach for underserved communities, the influence of cultural identity on patient care and patient decision making, cultural competency, diversity and inclusion, recruitment strategies, and service delivery models and quality improvement in clinical care. My graduate thesis focused on the influence of a counselor’s cultural values and ethnic identity on the genetic counseling process.
