Department of Research Education & Training

My interest focuses on coordinating research education and training programs that cover all career stages in cancer research. Specifically, I work on strategies to recruit and retain talent, identify and address needs, and measure the outcomes and impact of research education and training programs at MD Anderson. I lead the Research Education & Training Department at MD Anderson, which consists of the Office for Postdoctoral Fellows, the Training Grants & Fellowships Office, and a Recruitment and Special Programs Office which houses the Odyssey Fellowship Program. I also serve as the Administrative Director of the Cancer Research Training & Education Coordination component of the MD Anderson Cancer Center Support Grant.

My graduate and postdoctoral research focused on the area of cell and developmental biology. As a graduate student, I discovered roles for UNC-108 (small GTPase Rab2) and NCK-1 (NCK adaptor protein) in the efficient clearance of apoptotic cells in Caenhorhabditis elegans. As a postdoctoral fellow, I worked on the Gene Disruption Project to expand the library of protein trap lines and to design a CRISPR-based strategy for large-scale genetic manipulation of Drosophila melanogaster. Prior to my current role, I worked in clinical and research departments, handling grant administration, human resources, faculty affairs, clinical and research productivity reporting, and financial and management.
