Dr. Soares' lab is engaged in clinical research in the field of mood disorders (bipolar disorder and major depression). These studies involve neuroimaging studies with various imaging modalities, neurocognitive testing and genetic studies that attempt to investigate the pathophysiology of bipolar disorder and the mechanisms of action of pharmacological treatments. There are also several clinical trials testing new treatment modalities for patients with mood disorders.
Projects/techniques: Neuroimaging studies involving morphometric MRI, DTI, MRS and fMRI; Neurocognitive studies; Genetic underpinnings of brain abnormalities; Clinical trials of new agents to treat mood disorders.
