Hurricane Beryl 

GSBS classes will resume on Wednesday, July 10. Students are welcome to come to BSRB and utilize the computer lab and GSBS Commons for charging electronics and other needs.

Hurricane Beryl 

GSBS classes are canceled for Tuesday, July 9. GSBS students working in labs at MD Anderson or UTHealth Houston should consult with their advisors/PIs to determine if they should report to lab on Monday. 

Many of the GSBS staff will be working remotely or offline on Tuesday. Students are welcome to come to campus if it is safe to travel and utilize the computer lab and GSBS Commons for charging electronics and other needs.

Tropical Storm Beryl 

To ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff, the Graduate School will move to remote work and virtual classes for Monday, July 8. 

All in-person classes will be moved to virtual instruction for Monday, July 8. Course directors may cancel Monday classes as needed. Students should check with their course directors for further details and instructions. Students unable to participate virtually due to power outages, flooding issues, or childcare needs should also contact their course directors for assistance. 

GSBS students working in labs at MD Anderson and UTHealth Houston should consult with their advisors/PIs to determine if they should report to lab on Monday. 

The Graduate School and our parent institutions will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Beryl and its impact on Houston. Please check this page regularly for updates.

Emergency weather

Inclement weather conditions or natural disasters severe enough to cause closure are very rare, but when they do occur, Graduate School's policy is as follows:

  • With regard to lectures, didactic classes and other official on-campus school functions, the Graduate School will close when our first parent institution (UTHealth Houston or MD Anderson) closes, and re-open when the last one re-opens. The school's website will give the current status of classes.
  • Students should follow their faculty advisor’s institutional policies to determine when to return/report to their laboratories.

Personal Refuge:  UTHealth Houston and MD Anderson are not equipped to serve as a shelter during a hurricane or other emergency situation. Only ride-out team members (whose job responsibilities require their presence on a 24-hour basis) will be permitted access to facilities. Family members and pets will not be permitted to shelter at any UTHealth Houston or MD Anderson facility during a hurricane or other emergency situation.
